FAQs
1. What is a giclée print?
Giclée ( pronounced jhee-clay ) describes digital prints intended as fine art and produced by inkjet printers. The term originally derived from the French word 'gicleur' is now widely used to mean any fine-art printing, usually archival, printed by inkjet. It is often used by artists, galleries, and print shops for their high quality printing
Giclees are printed with a microscopic sized dot pattern allowing for virtual continuous tone printing. Using 10 different coloured inks the process is able to capture a range of colours previously unheard of, resulting in the absolute highest quality print imaginable.
2. What is the quality of your Limited Edition giclée prints?
Our Limited Edition prints are produced at an elite Hahnemühle Platinum Certified Studio, using museum-grade digital fine art paper and lightfast inks, essential for creating giclée prints that not only look stunning but also stand the test of time
3. What is the difference between a limited edition and an open edition print?
Limited editions suggest only a limited number of prints can be made available for purchase in the edition. For example, in a 25-print limited edition, once all 25 prints have sold, the prints will no longer be available. All prints are numbered (e.g. 1/25) and signed by the artist. The exclusive nature of a limited edition print effectively raises its value. Unlike limited edition prints, open edition prints may be endlessly reproduced. Because there is no limit to the number of prints that can be made, open edition prints are priced lower than limited edition prints.
4. What is an Artist's Proof?
When an artist is checking the colour and quality of the limited edition they will receive proofs.
Traditionally, Artist's Proofs, remained the property of the artist. In modern times they are sold at the same time as the Limited Edition Prints.
Artist's Proofs are exactly the same in terms of how they are printed, the colours, quality of printing, paper etc, however I hand embellish each Artist Proof.
The quantity of Artist's Proofs will be far fewer than the Limited Edition print quantity, and along with the hand embellishment they are more sought after and they come at a premium.
The Artist's Proof print is numbered and marked A/P and signed exactly the same as with the limited editions.
5. What is a hand embellished print?
After the giclée print has been produced, it is embellished with gouache paint and polychromos pencil, highlighting certain areas of the print, giving it texture and mimicking the appearance of the original painting. Each hand embellished print is unique from the other and only applied to Artist's Proof prints.
5. How soon will I get my print after purchase?
Typically 2-3 weeks depending on if the print is requiring bespoke framing and your location for shipping. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your purchase has been shipped!
